Everyone must watch this!

I will write some more on it later, but I just saw this and I think everyone should watch this.

Very nice. The comments suggest there may have been some kind of attempt to get it removed by Telecom - do you know if that's true?

I was gonna mention this today, but thought everyone knew about it and that it was old news!

This was released pretty much straight after the government's plans to force telecom to unbundle were leaked. Telecom actually got it successfully removed from youtube at the height of its popularity (due to copyright infringement) although there were still lots of people hosting it and posting the links on blogs. A censored version was even played on Campbell Live (or close up, i forget). Its obviously found its way back onto youtube since the hype's died down.

The speech at the start is one Gattung made at a telecommunications conference a while back. When it surfaced that she'd admitted using confusion tactics to make money it caused a massive uproar and kinda contributed to the massive downward spiral of the Telecom share price.

Thanks - the spoof ad controversy completely passed me by! As for the confusion marketing speech, I was taken aback by just how much anger this provoked. Wasn't she simply describing the truth that everyone knew anyway? How many industries don't use confusion marketing of some sort or another? Never the thought I'd find myself defening Gattung but in a way she was damned if she did (say it) and damned if she didn't (i.e. being dishonest about it).

Hah, yeah, that's too true. It has proved as a great marketing platform for rivals like Telstraclear though, who went and grabbed a whole lot of Telecom customers under the premise that their billing system was far less confusing. No wiring maintenance charge and all that other rubbish...
