War of the Worlds: Video Blogging

Not sure if this has been blogged about already (I haven't read every post), so I apologise in advance if it's been said:

A group of filmmakers used YouTube to post up video-diaries for a 'fictional character' Lonelygirl15 (Bree). Very interesting stuff, kind of funny in it's simplicity, it's almost completely legitimate 'fictional episodic filmmaking' so to speak. I'd like to see this concept used to create fictional personal text blogs - and then for these entire blogs to be published into one book as a novel (and similarly, for the 'quality fictional video blogs' to be released as DVD's? Hmmm, who knows. Lonelygirl15 is pretty basic, but there are a lot of possibilities for this form).

Ya I saw the whole debacle unfold on Nightline the other night.

I had actually seen a couple of her videos on Youtube because they were in amongst the most viewed vids section and I can say that I wasn't impressed.
Boring was all I got out of the two entries I fast forwarded through, so I hope they do not make a novel or film about it.

As for the controversy...
What exactly is everyones problem?
People who are naive enough to believe whatever they see on the internet shouldn't be so outraged. Those are the same people who are naive enough to think that "Reality TV" isn't scripted.

And so what if it wasn't "Real". What is "Real"? It was "Real" to those people when they watched it. Only the context has changed, but it doesn't mean they can't continue to draw some meaning or enjoyment from her posts.

People are funny sometimes, but mostly they annoy me...
