A Question on Counter Hegemony

Hi, just looking for an answer on this question I have as I try to better understand hegemony.

Does a counter hegemony eventually become the dominating hegemony when all the major assumptions of the counter hegemony become common sense?

Thanks in advance

Haha!

A very interesting thought, and one I'm sure scholars and artists have been nutting over for centuries.

To be Emo is to be 'non-conformist", but when you are subscribing to a doctrine of floppy hair, pink and black, stripes, MCR, Panic at the Disco, and sitting on the stairs in front of Imax/Starbucks so you can glower at those conformist sheep you utilise the cinema for it's intended purpose...

then yes, to be Emo is to conform.

But where was I? Oh yeah, so theoretically a counter-hegemony can become hegemonic itself but I think it usually becomes discourse instead. Counter hegemony is usually instituted by those with limited social influence to those who implement the dominant hegemony.

I guess Hegemony is about achieving and maintaining power over people, whereas Counter-Hegemony is about breaking that grip of control over people.

Does that make sense? I could be wrong you know.

I could be Emo...
